Art Info

Here you can read more about my inspirations and intentions.
There is also a "making of" of one of my drawings.

Inspiration & Intention:

Drawing is another way to tell a story, express a feeling or to make a statement. You can compare it to a musician who sings and writes a song.

I draw subjects that fascinate me, relate to me in some way or are of current interest. At first, I have an idea or an image in my mind, then I start looking for a subject that fits my idea. It is not just about creating a good drawing but to convey a meaning and express a certain feeling.

I think that is the only way you can reach a higher level.

Making of...

Here is an older "making of" of one of my drawings (Caught in the Headlights).

Idea & Context

In the beginning there is an idea. In this case I wanted to rework a drawing I did last year (Breakout), because I have never been happy with the outcome. I also wanted to add more context to it, therefore I decided to do a triolgy.

The first part represents a dangerous situation. The feeling of being trapped and exposed. "Caught in the headlights".

First sektches and outline

At first I did some sketches. My first plan was to do a 20x14inch drawing but it soon turned out that the drawing had to much larger than initally planed to realize my idea effectively. Thus I had to double the size and came up with a paper size of about 28x20 inches (70x50cm).

I came across a rough picture, that helped to draw the proportions. Since I wanted to create a dark Gia Carangi-like look her facial proportions served as a guideline. But otherwise all the details are drawn without photo reference.

Drawing steps

After the first outline was on paper I started with eyes and completeted the eye-nose area.

Then I continued with rest of the face and neck.
To see and draw more details I often used a mirror and all kinds of pictures.

I spent almost a week drawing only hair.
It's mainly drawn from my imagination, therefore it was a hard to draw the details but a good lesson.
To draw wild wind-blown hair realistically only from imagination is almost masochistic.

Finally, I completed my work with the dark jacket and background.
F or the background I also used some graphite dust and cotton to blend.
After almost three weeks of work here is the result.
